Hershey Text is an Inkscape extension for rendering text with engraving fonts. It has been included as part of standard Inkscape distributions since version 0.91.

The version of Hershey Text distributed with Inkscape includes about 12 different typefaces, as well as several symbol-based fonts. These original "Hershey Fonts" were originally created by Dr. A. V. Hershey while working at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards (now NIST), in the 1960s.
The latest version of Hershey Text, available from our GitHub repository also includes a number of new engraving fonts derived from modern fonts licensed under the SIL Open Font License, as listed below. If you would like to try it out, you can download it from the EggBot repository, where it is located in the "Inkscape_driver" folder. To install it manually, copy the three files "hershey.py", "hershey.inx," and "hersheydata.py" into your Inkscape extensions folder, replacing those three files there.
