The potentiometer advice was not working for me with a problem of the pen arm being jerky and ending up flopped to the right in plotting. What solved the problem for me was noting the red lights on the board at the left side and checking the wiring. The bottom-most motor wire (brown) had pulled loose in moving the eggbot about and getting it set up again. Reattaching the wire fixed it.
