The "Preset hatch for fills" extension applies a number of Eggbot-friendly settings to all Inkscape "Hatches (rough)" path effects in your current drawing. What does that mean? In short, when you're trying to create filled regions, a good techniques is to use Inkscape's Path Effect Editor tool to add an effect called "Hatches (rough)". To then make those hatches more effective for area fills in Eggbot plots, a number of settings associated with the effect should be changed. This extension automatically makes those changes for you. This process is extensively documented in [[Drawing a smiley face, part 3|Part 3]] of the [[Drawing a smiley face]] tutorial. Please refer to that tutorial for step-by-step instructions on using this extension as well as this hatch feature of Inkscape.

The "Preset hatch for fills" extension solves a very specific problem that comes up when you are trying to create filled (colored-in) areas with the Eggbot.

We normally recommend using the Hatch fill extension for most applications where you need to fill a region. However, one of the other several methods for Creating filled regions involves the use of an Inkscape "live path effect" with the ungainly name of "Hatches (rough)." The process for using this to create filled regions is documented in Part 3 of the Drawing a smiley face tutorial. As part of that process, you need to manually set a surprisingly large number of parameters by hand.

To save you the trouble of entering those parameters by hand, we created this "Preset hatch for fills" extension, which automatically makes those changes for you. The extension applies a number of Eggbot-friendly settings to all path effects in the document that have type "Hatches (rough)." As the process is extensively documented in Part 3 of the Drawing a smiley face tutorial, please refer to that tutorial for step-by-step instructions on using this extension.
